The Renaissance process is about...

Our Superintedent was nice enough to send everyone an opening message and I thought that I'd share some of it here. It says a lot!

Effective teachers understand the importance of a name. You realize that personal attention begins with a personal salutation. To you, students are not anonymous entities. You seek to affirm the student for his/her individual worth and by doing so, you let them know that they truly belong – that they are more than eight-to-three residents in some netherworld of a small desk.

To paraphrase Thomas Carlyle, “Great teachers show their greatness by the way they treat their students.” You are teachers that have come to realize that a pat on the back has enough force to propel a student toward excellence. I thank you and congratulate you for the successful start and for being an effective teacher leader sending the message that [our schools] are “CARING, COMMUNITY SCHOOLS PROVIDING EVERY CHILD EVERY CHANCE FOR SUCCESS!”

Keep-on-Keeping-on throughout this year and beyond…

Thanks Dr. Baggett for the kind words of support!

This is exactly what our Renaissance process is all about. It is about recognizing every student for his/her individual worth and letting them know that they truly belong in our schools. It’s the pat on the back that Carlyle and you speak of and more…

Once again, thanks for the kind words of support and thanks for supporting the Renaissance process…

Warm Regards,

William Bishop (Bill)

First Day Assembly

Yesterday we started off the first day of school with a school wide assembly to honor our students. We specifically recognized our seniors and our entering seventh graders.

Mr. Satcher our High School Principal is responsible for this assembly. He is trying diligently to recognize all of our students and promote academic excellence. Additionally, he used this opportunity to recognize all of our teachers and our newly formed
Renaissance Club.

The president of our Renaissance Club also spoke and recognized the clubs officers and introduced our Renaissance theme for the year.

The theme this year is THIS IS OUR NOW. It is in alignment with our previous theme RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW ANYTHING’S POSSIBLE and the theory of carpe diem.

At Haleyville High School we want our students to seize every opportunity to be successful academically and as citizens right here, right now. After all, THIS IS OUR NOW and when it's gone it’s gone.

Our Renaissance Blog

Welcome to the Haleyville High School Renaissance Blog. Why have a Renaissance blog? Because blogging is cool. More importantly, our students are important to us at Haleyville High School and we believe in all of them and want them to be successful academically and in life.

As such, we thought that it was important to establish a blog to share some of the great things going on in our school as a result of the Renaissance process. This blog will be updated as we move forward in the 2007-2008 academic school year. Please make suggestions and comments to help us improve this blog and the Renaissance process.
The picture above is of our 2007-08 leadership team with Charley Nelson head of Jostens Renaissance Program and the picture on the left is from the 2007 Jostens Renaissance Awards Banquet.

This year the Jostens National Renaissance Conference was held in beautiful Orlando, Florida. Like last year the conference provided a wealth of information about promoting academic excellence and citizenship within our schools. The students that we took with us were more than impressed by the conference and have great plans for the future and the process. If you're not familiar with the Renaissance process and you're trying to improve your school, then I suggest checking it out. Click Here!
Additionally, Mr. O'rear the Elementary Principal in our system with the help of some wonderful teachers, parents, and students presented for the first time at the National Conference. He did a wonderful job and plans to do even more with the process this year with the help of his faculty, staff, and student leaders. We hope to do the same at the High School.
We want the student leaders that went to the conference to step up and take an active role in promoting the Renaissance process. So far they are doing a great job. They selected the theme "This is my now." The theme means that it is our time to make a difference in our school and our society. We believe in our school and we believe in our people. Together with the Renaissance process we can make a difference. We just have to remember to live by the Latin theme of "Carpe Diem" and seize the day. After all, THIS IS MY NOW! Wish us luck...
